Documenting - The Sculpture Garden

Yes, I have a love affair with all things Minnesota and the Upper Midwest, it is, after all, HOME. I spent years, walking, biking, and driving the streets around the city. Watching it change, grow, and develop as I did the same. I have a deep connection with the city and its history. This post is about a great space at The Walker Art Center called the Sculpture Garden.

This place did not always exist as so much around the city has. I remember when they were building the structures at the park in the late 80s. One evening as the construction was finishing up I visited with some friends. It was magic. No lights yet, just the lights of the city surrounding the paths and art installations. I found a piece of scrap wood from a just-finished piece. It was cedar, one of my favorites. I could smell the cedar when I put the wood to my nose, it would leave the sent on my hands after I had held the piece. I love that piece of cedar and carried it around for years, you could see where I would rub to bring the oils and sent them to the top layer.

The Garden has changed over the years but it still remains a favorite stop when I am back home. The image in this post are a combo of older images and images from my trip in 2020. If you ever find yourself in Minneapolis, take a trip over to the Sculpture Garden and see what they have set up. Set and rest under the Cherry in the Spoon or just walk the maze of paths around the art.
