Documenting - American Wasteland - Minnesota
Old US Highways and backroads are a way of life for me. I grew up in the big city, a still sprawling urban expanse, lucky enough to have green space, but no real space. Summers in Wisconsin with my grandparent let me know what true space was like, a love for twisting 2 lane roads.
These images I got while taking a driving tour of HWY 169 in Minnesota. If not for the sign along the road, I would have never known the place was there. We stumbled along this place in the spring of 2014 and nature had almost covered the building from the road. It was a wash of green with this red building just peeking out over the bushes. We stopped and took images. The place was on beautiful land in southern Minnesota. Le Seuer to be exact.
The Coachlight Inn served people for over 40 years. In doing some research for this blog I found out the land had been given over to the Minnesota DNR so it can serve as more green space and a refuge for all the wildlife that calls the area home.
It will be interesting if I can get down that way to see what has been done since 2018 when the state took over the land.
Please follow my social media and blog to see where I go in the summer of 2021!
