Documenting Life - Moving extended family
2 houses, 7 cats, 3 dogs, and a snake, - 3 cars, 13 states - oh my…
So it has been super quiet on my social media and company pages, sometimes you just have to take time to get other things done. This time was spent helping my daughter and dad move into a new family home.
After Mom passed, dad realized he had moved because she wanted to live in Las Vegas. He wanted to keep the income-tax-free lifestyle but get back to a more natural area, as we had back home in Minnesota.
My daughter needs extra help as she works to finish returning home from her 2010 deployment to Afghanistan, the desert was not a place to help her do that. In looking around the country the family settled on looking for a home in Tennessee. Much like our home in Minnesota with water, trees, and green all around, income-tax-free and a much slower way of life than either Minneapolis or Las Vegas.
Peanut had a perfect lookout for the trip back to Las Vegas.
The adventure started by going to Minnesota in March to pack, clean, and close down my daughter’s home. Still chilly up there, but not the bone chill, they can get in January and February. Her rental there had moister issues and mice, two things I despise. We set out to clean up, clear out belongings, and pack things into a storage pod to be stored and transferred later.
I was so proud of her for getting rid of things that were no longer used, ruined, or otherwise not needed for the new home. It helped her knowing that her Grandpa had many things for the kitchen and home already.
We had a couple of rounds of freezing rain during our time cleaning out and it lead to me hitting the ground a few times before we found grips for my shoes and git to put down on the ground. To say I was sore when we finally packed the car to start for Las Vegas is an understatement.
All about the timing, welcome home!
In mid-April, they headed out to Tennessee and I set out for some quiet time with my family at Happy Earth Market. The trip for them went better than any of us could have imagined. They found a house, it had hit the market the day they saw it and they put in an offer. It was a perfect fit, a larger lot, rural but still close to urban areas, and our own grove of trees. Really we could not have asked for much more. If our offer was accepted we would be closing on May 20th.
May 20th? They had to be kidding me, a month away? I got off the phone and set out to pack the house and get ready for the epic clean-up that now was right in front of us. We booked the truck for the 13th of May and set to cleaning and packing, don’t forget the wedding in the midst of all.
It was a crazy three weeks leading up to what I would find out was going to be an even crazier two months. I was too busy to document much of the work that lead up to the truck being loaded and us setting off for Tennessee.
Over the next few weeks I will be sharing the move, and the first few weeks here. I have a few stories and some images that I can share. Looking forward to documenting and sharing with you all again soon.
Peace All.
Shannon
