Documenting - Backroad Blitz - Hwy 101 - CA

Highway 101 through California includes state Highway 1 and cuts through some beautiful areas, from hard urban sprawl to the rocky coasts, to sand beaches, to farms, and eventually the giant redwoods. It was an experience of ever-changing treats for the eyes.

Leaving Vegas in the afternoon and having a few stops to make on my way out of town I did not reach the coast till evening. The pier at Santa Monica was closing for the night and the sun was just an orange glow along the horizon. I found a place north of the city and tucked in for the night. With the stars dancing above me and the ocean crashing outside the car, I slept like a baby.

A few adjustments to the car the next morning and the animals and I officially set off to start our adventure. I skipped stopping for a lot of things the first full day as I was still getting the animals adjusted and I know this is a trip I can make again, and will. I was in love with the Buddha garden I came across, I am still not sure if it was a home or what. I kept to the public walkways and roads and got a few images of the many statues that adorn this area. I have done a few searches and right now can’t find information on this great spot. I will get back there for more information in the next year.

We drove through small shore towns, through farm fields, even picking up a couple of honey bees for a bit. We stopped and got them safely out of the car. I stayed along the coast as much as I could, it made for amazing views but not many safe turnouts for images. The second night we stopped almost to the border and found a spot under the giant trees to sleep and get ready for Oregon.
