Documenting - Backroad Blitz - Hwy 101 - OR
I had been through parts of Oregon in 2016, staying for a few days in Seaside. So I was excited to get back to the area and spend more time along the coast. I stopped in Northern California for the evening wanting to get a full day of light as I crossed into Oregon. However, it started to rain during the evening. The trip along the Oregon coast was full of rain, overcast skies, and beautiful views.
When I first saw the rocky cost that morning, I started to cry. I was overtaken by the sheer beauty I was seeing. I was proud of the fact that I was even sitting there at the moment. This trip is about much more than seeing these amazing sights.
This trip is about finding and coming into my own power and place. To stop being scared of my own shadow and things that go bump in the night. Taking my fear down, while remembering to be mindful and safe.
I drove the winding road wanting to stop and get images but remembering to take care to not get my gear wet.
We found roads the went winding through the thick pines, the light and rain of the day struggling to make it to the ground.
I had looked for secluded camping spaces along the wooded roads but found myself still too nervous to stop for the night. However, we did find a spot to stop for a while and listen to the rain dancing through the trees before hitting the car and ground around us, before driving on to find a more comfortable spot to stop for the night. We slept by the shore of a small bay that evening and hoped we would get less wet weather the following day.
The next morning we drove along finishing the northern coast of Oregon. Finding spots along the coast, getting coffee, and checking out parks in the little towns along the way. We stopped for a while for the animals to run and for me to dry out the car from the day before. The rain had found a way into the car and we had spent the day with rain inside and outside of the car.
It was an overcast day with on and off rain. I made sure to grab some images and spend a good amount of time enjoying the area before lunch and our drive over the long bridge going into Washington state.
