Documenting- Backroad Blitz - Hwy 101 & 12 - Washington

Washington was too short! I had a dental emergency about halfway through my time and decided to not wander as much on my way to Minnesota. I will get back to Washington and Idaho as they were amazing, so much to see and experience. However, between my teeth and the fires, I missed so much.

I spent my first full day in Washington along the coast, it was the middle of the week, overcast, and surprisingly quiet in a lot of places. As the day progressed I paid little attention to where I was until I saw that sign for the border of Canada, oops, missed my turn east. We found a beach, drove out, and the animals and I enjoyed a beautiful sunset before finding a place to sleep. I decided to turn east in the morning.

I had a few different ways I could travel to Minnesota, however, I really wanted to check out US Hwy 12. It is the first coast-to-coast highway and runs through Minnesota and Wisconsin, so I grew up knowing and driving parts of 12 in my own area. It has a lot of still existing old bridges, many of them not in use, needing repair, or walking paths. Each time I find one I feel like I found a great treasure.

The trip through Washington and Idaho on the road was beautiful. I had no clue how amazing it would be up in the elevations around there. I made sure to hit a few offshoots from Hwy 12 to get deeper into the National Forest areas. We found some great areas to camp and check out when we get back that way.

More summer adventures coming soon.
