Keep Moving… Always
“Some days it is hard to move, even a little bit; but she knows even if she has to crawl she needs to keep going.”
Excerpt from Down the Rabbit Hole by Shannon Beelman
I have been building my creative “thing” since 2007, I say a creative “thing” because it has been changing and evolving as I changed, grew, and continue to heal myself. In 2013 I “officially” started my photography business, my “official” journey started in 2010. And I now sit here in 2021 still just growing my business. Why tell you all this? Well, to tell you to not give up. In all the hurt, change, growth, and other BS I have gone through in the last 11 years, my drive to continue and make a life of my photography never died.
There were things that came up and took some of my time, things I needed to do for myself, my parents, my kids, and in the end my growth. There were things in me that needed to grow and get stronger. And when others would say give up, do something different, or any of the many things people say to creatives and entrepreneurs along the way; I knew my path, my goal, my dream.
We don’t always reach that goal in 5 or 10 years. Sometimes life has things we need to do or learn. If I had followed the conventual wisdom and given up on my dreams, where would I be today? As a woman over 40 and now over 50 it is not easy to make a path in this world, shoot it is not easy for women of any age. But after 40 women are looked at differently in our society. But that is society’s problem, not mine or yours. Don’t listen to the people who want to tell us what we “should” be doing. Listen to what makes your spirit happy and your heart sing. That is where the beauty of life is.
Keep reaching for those dreams. Keep learning, growing, and leveling up. And remember the beauty is not in the destination, it is in the journey.
